GREEK MEP Eva Kaili demanded Germany make a “fair distribution” of wealth in Europe as Greece and Italy remain to be the two countries most burdened by debt in the eurozone.

Ms Kaili added: “I see some connections to what happened to Greece. Two different parties, completely different, trying to have a coalition that is not pro-European, as it seems.”

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that she would work with any government formed in Italy but warned that eurozone rules must structure any economic discussions.

Ms Merkel said: “We should talk with every government but we have principles within the euro area and of course there will be difficult questions.”
